Anyone know if you take out your ECU and unplug it (to mend the internal hose) will this compromise the engine or immobiliser coding and hence require it to be reprogrammed? If so can you do this with VCDS lite or do your need full version?

Hi Andy/Nigel

Would be a good idea if one of you can do a few photo's and a short description as this seems a popular ongoing topic, and may help other members looking at the instructions and diagram from what I posted doesn't give a clear view of the ECU fastenings or the internal view of the ECU.

Dont let the footwell light hang loose and short on the chassie, it will blow the interia light fuse. Good luck and keep things posted

Ok have managed to get ecu out( now with badly cut hands) but I need to stop now as I need to sort tea out for the kids. I will take a load of pics later this evening on how I removed it with a how to. All I will say is that it's an absolute nightmare to do!!

Being completely honest, I found removing the whole dash a lot easier than trying to get at the ecu through piddily little holes. You only need a replacement bolt for the steering wheel. I wish I had dealt with my ecu when I last had my dash out, and I am very tempted to do it again to get at the bloody thing. For the life of me I cannot get the wiring loom to release from the ecu itself!
